When It Rains..

erratic_prophet | 28 June, 2006 11:02

I'm finally posting after somewhat recovering from probably the most stressful weekend at work in history. To sum it up: the mugginess was unbearable, the central air was blowing hot instead of cool, people were getting sick and dizzy left and right, many coworkers were going through personal crises, I found out another coworker not only had a stroke, but also a heart attack and lung cancer and only a few days left to live, and then I got into it with my department manager who has this tendency to shriek at people like a banshee because she has no self-control whatsoever. I can't even count how many times she screamed so badly at the coworker with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) that she had to take medical leave. The stress would make her body shut down.

The woman had the audacity to threaten my job when she very well knows that she can't afford to lose me since: I'm a good worker, I'm reliable, and I'm the only one working in the section at night. This is what was said...

Banshee: "R, do you like working here at (Store Name)?"

Me: "Not lately. No."

Banshee: "....why?"

Me: "I feel that most of the managers here-- most, not all-- have a hard time behaving in a polite and business-like manner."

Banshee: "Well, you're not business-like!" Stomps off.

Me: "She got me there, didn't she?"

Sadly enough, the conversation above was word for word. This is how they handle things where I work. Unfortunately, it's no use complaining to this new store manager-- the nice one who actually listened was transferred to another store-- because she's such a cold fish who cares about nothing but dollar signs. So I've decided that after my vacation in August, I'll seriously start looking for another job. I've been keeping my eye open for a few months now, but I thought maybe it was just me becoming antsy and bored with working in the same place for a year. That sometimes happens to me. But now, I know for sure that it's only because of the gross incompetence of my "superiors".

I have hated nearly every job I have ever had. I used to think it was the job, but I guess after all this time, it's probably me. I'm just not cut out to deal with other people in a work setting. Or at all, really.

A lot of the time, it's not the actual JOB that sucks - it's the people. Like this current one. The job itself is excellent. Great commute, easy, mindless work that allows me to think about other things, flexible hours, you name it. But my co-workers make me want to hit them with my car because they're idiots.

THANK GOD I'm leaving here at the end of July and never ever looking back. I'm going to have to try really really hard to restrain myself from being all "okay! It's my last day and I HATE YOU ALL."

Wow! That person with MS really ought to complain about the Banshee to a higher level manager or if need be sue the Banshee/store. Health problems because of this are horrible.
And you, you better be looking for a new job. And when you leave, let the reason be known to all(including senior managers, like manager of Banshee). All the best with the job hunt!

OMG! I hope to god you have a few days off to recover. Treat yourself to some pampering....massage, facial etc, just to de stress yourself. Goodness, working in that type of environment you literally must be in knots :(

i'm just going to keep playing the lottery until i'm homeless. given my $200 of savings, that should take about a week. if i win, i'll send you a few bucks...whatever i don't spend on moonshine.

Rachel- I actually like the people I work with. I just loathe most of the managers. There are some who absolutely refuse to do their job and leave people floundering.

MIchelle- I did manage to rest up a few days after. Apparently, the manager above was on a rampage this week and screeched at at least 4 other people in the area.

J- You can send some moonshine. I'm amazed they don't require a two drink minimum at work.

Dee- Oops! I totally didn't mean to leave you out of the previous reply!

The coworker with MS pretty much has Banshee dancing from puppet strings now. She's afraid of a law suit.

I've been looking around at jobs. Nothing in earnest yet. I'm taking my vacation. Too many people have left in a huff and regretted it later when they lost their vacation days. It's like I told another coworker, I'm keeping my eyes and ears open and my mouth shut. Management won't have a thing to complain about me when I leave. I don't believe in burning bridges.
